JOURNAL / OAXACA
We collaborate with Oaxacan artisans and workshops in palm weaving, wool, upholstery, stone, carving and engraving. It isn't a marketing device: it is a way of working that brings us closer to what makes this region different.
Design with identity
Bringing local techniques into a contemporary piece gives it a sense of belonging. The chairs at Casa Antonieta in Oaxaca have hand-woven palm seats, and we have shipped palm-seat stools as far as Barcelona.
The crafts we work with
- Palm weaving, for seats and backs.
- Wool loom-woven by weavers from Teotitlán del Valle.
- Leather and faux-leather upholstery, with local upholsterers.
- Stone and marble, with stonemasons and marble workers from the region.
- Carving and engraving.
Mutual respect
Working with artisans isn't outsourcing handwork: it is a relationship in which each side brings its own expertise. We value the time, knowledge and sensitivity of those who have spent generations perfecting their technique.
A living culture
Bringing craft into contemporary design pieces doesn't mean turning it into folklore. It means recognizing that culture is alive, that it evolves and can speak with new forms without losing its essence.
The value stays in the region
By collaborating with Oaxacan artisans and producers, the work and wealth each piece creates stay here. Sustainability is not only ecological: it is social and economic too.
