JOURNAL / CARE
Clean gently
Use a soft, barely damp cloth with a few drops of neutral soap, then dry right away with another clean cloth. Avoid multi-purpose cleaners and harsh chemicals: they damage the finish and dry out the wood. If the grain is visible, always clean along it.
Keep it out of sun and heat
Wood reacts to changes in temperature and humidity. Keep furniture out of direct sun and away from heat sources such as stoves. A light curtain or blind filters the light and keeps the natural color longer.
Mind the humidity
In humid climates, keep the space ventilated. Wipe up spills immediately and don't leave plant pots or wet objects directly on the wood.
Avoid ring marks and heat
Use coasters, tablecloths or fabric or cork mats. If a mark does appear, rub it with a soft cloth in circular motions; it usually fades.
Renew the finish
No finish lasts forever, especially outdoors or on the coast. When the surface loses its sheen or looks dry, it's time to renew it. A solid-wood piece can be sanded and refinished many times.
If the piece is ours, we can take care of it: we maintain the pieces we make, from refinishing doors and windows to adjustments and hardware replacement.
