ABOUT RED CEDAR (CEDRO ROJO)
Red cedar is a classic of Mexican carpentry: light, stable and with an unmistakable scent. It isn't a true cedar but a tropical species from the same family as mahogany.
Its stability makes it good for doors, windows and wall paneling, and its scent, which keeps moths away, makes it the traditional wood for closets and drawers.
It's softer than tzalam or oak, so we reserve it for pieces that won't take impacts or heavy wear.
