FOLDING DOORS

An opening that clears from side to side.

Several solid wood leaves joined by hinges that fold and stack to one side, opening almost the whole bay onto a terrace or garden.

WOOD DOORS / FOLDING DOORS

When the opening has to disappear.

A folding door is made of several leaves hinged to each other. When it opens, the leaves fold in a zigzag and stack to one side of the opening, guided by a track; when it closes, they form a continuous wood wall.

Compared with a sliding door, it frees almost the whole opening, because its leaves don’t stay in front of it. In exchange it takes more hardware and more adjustment: hinges, track and guides are sized for the weight of each leaf.

WHEN IT FITS

To open a whole space.

  1. 01

    Terraces and gardens

They join the living or dining room with the outdoors when the weather allows.

  2. 02

    Restaurants and bars

They open the front of the venue to the street or patio during service.

  3. 03

    Rooms that divide

They split a large space in two and stack away when you need just one.

  4. 04

    Closets

Narrow leaves that fold to show the whole interior.

  5. 05

    Even or odd

With an even number of leaves, all of them stack together; with an odd number, one can work as an everyday door.

HOW WE MAKE THEM

Many leaves, one movement.

A folding door works well when all its leaves work together.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Wood folding doors

How much does a wood folding door cost?

It is quoted by number of leaves, opening size, wood and hardware. As a reference, a solid wood front door runs MXN 50,000 to 95,000 before VAT and freight. With the opening size we can give you a ballpark.

Folding or sliding?

A folding door frees almost the whole opening because its leaves fold to one side; a sliding door only frees the part its leaves don’t cover. A sliding door takes less hardware and less adjustment.

How many leaves can a folding door have?

It depends on the width of the opening and the weight of each leaf. We define the number and width of the leaves from the drawing, together with the track and hinges.

Does a folding door work outdoors?

Yes, with stable wood such as tzalam or macuil, drips, seals and an exterior finish. On façades very exposed to rain, an overhang helps.

Can it have double or triple glazing?

Yes. If the door is glazed, the glass can be double or triple to insulate from cold, heat and noise, and laminated or tempered for safety.

YOUR DOOR

Which opening do you want to open up?

Send us the drawing or the opening size, whether it faces outdoors, the site location and the date. We’ll give you a ballpark before a detailed quote.
