WOOD DOORS / HINGED DOORS
From the entrance to the bedroom.
A hinged door swings on hinges along one edge. It is the most common system and the one that seals best, because the leaf closes against its frame. We use it at entrances and on façades, where the door takes sun and rain, and indoors, where weight, sound insulation and matching every door on the project matter.
We made a carved huanacaxtle door for Hotel Boutique El Callejón, the doors set between the arches of the former San Pablo convent with Taller Mauricio Rocha, and tzalam doors, closets and blind panels for Hotel Oaxaca Inn.

HOW WE MAKE THEM
Built to last, outside and in.
How long a door lasts comes down to the details.
- Stable wood: tzalam or macuil outdoors, huanacaxtle for carving and wide leaves, oak or cedar indoors.
- Sections and joinery designed so the leaf does not warp as humidity changes.
- Outdoors, a drip and protection at the bottom, the part that suffers most from rain.
- Hinges, locks and pulls resolved with the leaf and matched on every door; corrosion-resistant on the coast.
- Finish with tone samples before fabrication, matching the closets, paneling and built-ins.
- If glazed, double or triple and safety glass, with perimeter seals.
- Installation by our own team.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Solid wood hinged doors
How much does a solid wood hinged door cost?
As a reference, an interior door starts at MXN 30,000 and a front or façade door runs MXN 50,000 to 95,000, before VAT and freight. Price depends on size, wood, design and hardware.
Which wood is best for an exterior door?
Tzalam and macuil are the woods we use most outdoors, for their stability and durability. Huanacaxtle (parota) allows wide leaves and carving, and red cedar is light and stable. We recommend the species based on the door’s orientation and the site’s climate.
Can a wood door withstand sun and rain?
Yes, if it is designed for it: stable wood, proper joinery, a drip, an exterior finish and regular maintenance. A very exposed door, or one on the coast, needs its finish renewed more often.
What is the difference between a solid and a hollow-core door?
A hollow-core door is a light frame skinned with veneer or board. A solid door is heavier, closes more firmly, blocks sound better and can be repaired and refinished over the years.
Can you make every door for a house or hotel?
Yes, that is the most common case. We make the full set, from the front door to the interior doors, along with closets and built-ins if the project includes them, and deliver in phases if the site needs it. A mid-size residential project takes 2 to 5 months.
Do you make carved doors?
Yes. We made a carved huanacaxtle door for Hotel Boutique El Callejón. Carving is done by hand in our workshop, based on the project’s design.
Can it have double or triple glazing?
Yes. If the door is glazed, the glass can be double or triple to insulate from cold, heat and noise, and laminated or tempered for safety.
