WOOD DOORS / PIVOT DOORS
A door that becomes a wall.
A pivot door does not hang from hinges: it turns on a pivot in the floor and another at the top. That allows wider, taller and heavier leaves than a hinged door, which stand perpendicular to the opening when open.
It is one of the most demanding pieces of joinery: a large leaf has to stay straight for years and turn effortlessly. We have made pivot doors for a hotel in Puerto Escondido and for a house in Valle de Bravo.
WHEN IT FITS
For openings that ask for more.
- 01
Main entrances
A single wide, tall leaf that marks the way in.
- 02
Terraces and patios
Several pivot leaves that open a space completely to the outdoors.
- 03
Hotel rooms
Entrance or terrace doors repeated in every room.
- 04
Centered or offset axis
With a centered axis you pass on both sides of the leaf; offset, you get a single wider passage.
- 05
Flush, boarded or screened
A continuous surface, or a screen that lets air through with the door closed.
HOW WE MAKE THEM
Weight is solved in the design.
In a pivot door, the wood and the hardware are designed together.
- Floor and top pivots chosen for the leaf’s weight and size.
- Stable wood and sections designed so a large leaf does not warp.
- Stops and lock resolved so the leaf closes well and does not slam in the wind.
- On the coast, corrosion-resistant hardware and a finish for sun and salt air.
- Installation by our own team: leveling the floor pivot is part of the job.
- If glazed, double or triple and safety glass, with perimeter seals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Wood pivot doors
How much does a wood pivot door cost?
It is quoted per leaf by size, wood and pivots. As a reference, a solid wood front door runs MXN 50,000 to 95,000 before VAT and freight, and large-format pivot doors tend to sit at the top of that range.
How large can a pivot door be?
It depends on the weight the pivot can carry and on the stability of the wood. We size the leaf and the hardware together from the drawing; if the opening is very large, we suggest splitting it into several leaves.
Does a pivot door seal well?
It seals less than a framed hinged door, because it turns freely on its axis. Seals, stops and a good floor detail help; on façades very exposed to rain, an overhang or a different system is advisable.
Do you make pivot doors for hotels?
Yes. We have made pivot doors for a hotel in Puerto Escondido, along with its furniture and bar.

Do you have a large opening?
